Jimmy Jib FAQs

What is a Jimmy Jib?
The Jimmy Jib is arguably the best lightweight remote head camera crane on the market. It is designed to integrate with virtually all video formats as well as 16mm and 35mm film cameras (film cameras require the addition of a lens control sytem). Jimmy Jibs can be rigged to a maximum length of 40 feet (12m) but can also be rigged as small as 6ft. Extension kits are simply added or removed enabling access for tight and awkward locations. The Jimmy Jib offers smooth shots comparible to its heavier cousins, while offering the benefit of being highly portable. The Jimmy Jib is equally at home in extreme location environments or a studio.

Which camera formats can you put on a Jimmy Jib?
The Jimmy Jib is capable of lifting any camera weighing up to 55lbs (25kg) up to 30 ft reach and is then reduced to 25lbs (12.5kg) for the 40ft reach. To date we have had nearly every format camera mounted to it from Canons 5 & 1D, DV ,HDV , SX , Digi , HD Tape, P2, XDCam, various OB bodies, 3D ,4k inc RED & Arri Alexa, 8mm 16mm & 35mm film to list but a few.

Where can I use a Jimmy Jib?
As yet we have not found an environment where a Jimmy Jib cannot be used. We regularly operate them both indoors and out and have also taken them into very extreme conditions ranging from +50 degree celsius, to -20 degrees conditions to torrential rain and high humidity.

Can a Jimmy Jib go on track?
Yes, the Jimmy Jib has its own dedicated gauge of track which is supplied in kits of 20ft and comes in four foot lengths.

Is it possible to 'dutch' the camera on a Jimmy Jib?
Yes, the X-Y axis hot head that comes as standard with the crane can be adapted to provide 360 degrees or 120 degrees of dutch rotation. This needs to be requested prior to the shoot.
